Virginia Leona King
February 23, 1933 - January 4, 2025 (Age 91)
Virginia Leona (Mongold) King, 91, of Cumberland, Md, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 4, 2025, at home, surrounded by close friends and family. During her last days, she cherished singing songs about Jesus and looking forward to going “home”.
Virginia was affectionately known to so many as Mom, Momma, Grandma, Ms. Jenny, Jennie, Genny, Mrs. King, Miss King, and best friend.
Born February 23, 1933, in Maysville, WV, she was the daughter of the late Roy Smith and Margaret (Margie) Mongold.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by dependent Viola Cooper, grandson Eric Jeffries, life partner William (Bee) Willison, and her daughter Deborah (Debbie) Jeffries.
She graduated Valedictorian from Fort Hill High School in Cumberland; Md. Virginia had a long 30+ year career at Sears where she adored interacting with her customers and working with them to find those hard-to-find parts that they were searching for. Virginia was also a former Real Estate Agent but her life’s work and love was being a landlady; where she embraced giving people affordable housing with a personal connection. She cherished interacting with people and helping them every opportunity she was given. Miss King truly loved her tenants. She was a member of numerous Christian churches in the Cumberland area throughout her years but generally just loved Jesus and had great belief in eventually being reunited with those who preceded her. Virginia had a great affinity for all pets, hers and the ones who found their way to her home. She shared her front porch with so many over the years, for as long as they were willing to stay. Close friends Bob, Brenda, Connie and Ron held a particularly special place in her heart and on that porch.
Virginia cherished the love exemplified by Jesus and strived with every breathe to replicate that same love for all.
Virginia is survived by daughter Valerie Lancaster, son in-law Wilbert Jeffries, grandchildren Missy Morgan, Charlene Jeffries, Douglas King, Shawn and Brooke Jeffries, Johnny Steinmetz, and Brian Jeffries. Virginia is also survived by great grandchildren Tasha Stewart, Bradley (Scotty) Conard, Tommy Grieves, Logan King, Sydnee King, Dyson King, Desmond King, Bella Miller, Elle Jeffries and Shane Jeffries. Virginia considered many people in the community to be family.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Monday, January 13, 2025, from noon to 1:00 p.m. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Jason Smith officiating.
