Walter "Lucky" Jeffrey Moore
January 10, 1934 - June 23, 2021 (Age 87)
Walter "Lucky" Jeffrey Moore, 87, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord and his loving wife on Wednesday, June 23, 2021.
Walter was born Jan. 10, 1934, in Lonaconing. He was the son of the late George Washington Moore and Wilhelmina "Minnie" Scollick.
His father passed away in a mining accident shortly after he was born, and he had to be raised by many relatives. Over those years, many people were there to help him through each endeavor, almost like God had sent them on a mission.
Walter was extremely thankful for the experiences he had throughout his long life. Walter honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy for eight years. Afterwards he was employed at the Ford/GM plant, Rental Uniform, Crystal Laundry, Aetna Finance, and Auto Parts Warehouse.
On June 17, 1954, he married his soulmate, Mary. Together they filled a life full of love and laughter. Walter and Mary were married for 67 years. There wasn't a day that went by that they didn't see or talk to each other. They were inseparable and went everywhere together. One of their favorite places was their front porch swing where they enjoyed each other's company. Together they raised two daughters, Cherie Helmstetter and Sheila Lee.
Walter is preceded in death by his devoted, loving wife, Mary Moore. He is survived by his two daughters, Cherie Helmstetter, Cumberland, and Sheila Lee, Cumberland; grandchildren, Amanda Miller and husband, Marc, Kyle Helmstetter, and Alice Williams and husband, Jerod; great-grandchildren, Ariana Miller and Charley Williams with two more on the way.
He is also survived by special relatives, Shirl Moore and Bobbi Moore, of Kentucky; Terri and Dennis Wold, of Michigan; Jean Emert, Jackie, Bill, and Danny Green, of Tennessee; Betsy Green; and also a dear friend, Richard Beavers.
His family thanks Levi, Jeffrey, Don Ward, and all the members of Chick-fil-A who took the time out of their day to get to know the kind man Walter was and how much he enjoyed their conversations, smiles, and waves throughout the day. Also, we thank the employees of Kline's Restaurant where Walter and Mary would go every day in their younger years.
The family also thanks the neighbors in the surrounding area that watched over him every day and always kept him safe.
Private graveside services will be held for family at Restlawn Memorial Garden in LaVale with military honors. Presiding over the service will be the Rev. Martha Macgill.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Helmstetter, Marc Miller, and Jerod Williams.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to help with the cost of burial expenses. Contributions may be made through Scarpelli Funeral Home.
