Walter H. Slick, Jr.
February 5, 1942 - September 29, 2022 (Age 80)
Walter H. "Butch" Slick Jr., 80, of Export, formerly of Greensburg, passed away Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022. He was born Feb. 5, 1942, in Greensburg, to the late Walter and Lillian (Sprung) Slick. He is survived by his sister, Elsie Allshouse; four daughters, Michelle (Chris) Thomas, Deborah Slick, Denise (John) Smerkar and Carrie Slick; son, Chris Troup; 10 grandchildren, Bob, Kim, Krystal, Kassi, Bobby, John, Andrew, Robby, Garrett and Nicole; 9 great-grandchildren; and former spouse, Doloris Dietrick. Butch was a graduate of Hempfield High School, where he enjoyed being a member of the 4-H program. 4-H, family and friends led to his lifelong love of ranching and farming at his own incorporated farm, Dead End Farms. He was the owner of Slick Trucking and ran deliveries for a number of operators, including 84 Lumber and the Tribune Review. Butch was a strong, simple soul who loved his animals and family above all, especially his love for English Springer Spaniels and his two beloved cats, Diesel and Jimmy. He spent almost every healthy day of his life working the land. Most days he could be found on a tractor in his pearl snap shirts with a Turner's tea in his hand, or hosting horse trail rides. He was adamant about teaching his children and grandchildren how to care for livestock and the quality of a hard day's work. He was an avid gardener who planted a plentiful garden every year. He was a social man who never met a person he didn't talk to or wasn't willing to lend a helping hand to. As a hobby, Butch was a consistent auction-goer, looking for a bargain or buying the animals that needed that little bit of extra attention and care. His family and close friends will especially miss his warm smile, unforgettable laugh and his sarcastic, smart wit. His undeniable love for his family will be missed beyond the measure of words. There will be no visitation or service. Arrangements by the Bash-Nied-Jobe Funeral Home, 152 Abbe Place, Delmont (724-468-8381). A private interment will take place at the Westmoreland County Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Westmoreland County 4-H. Please make checks payable to Penn State and send to Westmoreland County 4-H, 214 Donohoe Road, Suite E, Greensburg, PA 15601.
