Wanetta Faye Miller

Wanetta Faye (Hornick) Miller, 85, of Carpendale, died May 26, 2023, at home, surrounded by her family.

Born May 31, 1937, in Spruce, WV. She was the daughter of the late Hesse Clay and Jessie Mae (Fansler) Hornick.

She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, George E. Miller; stepson, Wendell Deaner; and granddaughters Amy Shirley and Carissa Bolstad.

Wanetta was a graduate of Ridgeley High School, Class of 1955. She married her soulmate, George, on November 25, 1955. She attended Catherman’s Business School in Cumberland.

In 1969, George and Wanetta established Millerdale Grocery, Laundromat, and Car Wash. They closed the businesses in 1989 and developed an eight-unit apartment building at the same location. Wanetta had also worked in banking, starting at American Trust Bank – which later became M and T Bank.

She attended Holy Cross United Methodist Church.

She loved watching and attending baseball games, cheering for the New York Yankees and the Washington Nationals. Wanetta was a fabulous cook and amazing baker, too. People always requested her scalloped potatoes, brownies, and banana cupcakes.

Wanetta’s favorite thing to do was spend time with her family. She loved spending time outside, especially with her grandson, Nathaniel. Wanetta had a special connection with him – they were an inseparable duo! She and Nathaniel loved playing pranks on each other! He took great care of her and always made sure she was comfortable. Her days were also filled with spending time with her sister, Loraine. She was blessed to have her sons, Randy and Jeffrey, daughter Jodi, daughter-in-law Kelly, and son-in-law LeRoy take care of her. They surrounded her with love and laughter.

Wanetta was the sweetest, most caring and generous person. Everyone who met her, loved her – and also enjoyed the terrific sense of humor! She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her children, Jeffrey George Miller, Randal Clay Miller and wife Kelly, and Jodi Faye Miller and husband LeRoy; sister, Loraine Edith Scott; brother Harold Gene Hornick; grandchildren, Randal Miller, Jr. and Brittany, Truman Miller and Kaitlin, Scott Swick, Alexandria Ellison and Stevie, Sammy Ellison, Rickie Ellison, LeRoy Miller, Jr., Nicole Miller, Corey Miller and Brooke Jenkins, Nathaniel Miller, Ryan Miller and Chantel, and Matthew Miller and Carolina; great grandchildren, Arianna, Easton, Layne, Sianna, Sylas, Sylvia, Evan, Amora, Emily, Ava, Chanel, Julia, Lincoln, and due to arrive in July, Truman.

She is also survived by her dogs, Sparkle, Bella and Bubba, and her cats, Scrappy, Cali, Bo, Rue, and Smokey.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 6-8 PM.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM in the funeral home, with Pastor David Lease, officiating.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

Wanetta is also survived by her estranged daughter, Lori Mae McCullough, her children, Joshua McCullough, Jenna Miller, and Julie Bream, and her grandchildren, Robert, William, Caitlin, Caleb, and Bailey.
