Wayne N. Carpenter
February 16, 1936 - March 17, 2022 (Age 86)
Wayne N. Carpenter, 86, of Zanesville, went to be with the Lord, after a long illness, Thursday morning, March 17, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.
Born February 16, 1936 in Zanesville, he was a son of the late Gerald W. and Josephine B. (Piatt) Carpenter and was a 1954 graduate of Jefferson High School. Wayne served in the National Guard and started his working career at Albers Grocery Store. He then became store manager at several different stores throughout Ohio before eventually opening his own grocery store. Wayne then moved his family back to Zanesville where he worked as a coal miner before becoming the Produce Manager, and retiring from, Sunrise I.G.A.
Surviving are his children, Brenda Wheeler and Donald Carpenter both of Zanesville, Cheryl (Marlin Smith) Norman of Heath and Mark Carpenter of Zanesville; ten grandchildren, Matthew (Mayme) Wheeler, Megan Wheeler, Ryan (Wendy) Norman, Cassie (Jimmy) Titko, Zackary Carpenter, Nicholas Carpenter, Lucas Carpenter, Abbey Carpenter, Izzy Carpenter and Elly Carpenter; five great grandchildren, Miley, Raelyn, Marvin, Jack and Emersyn; sister, Illya (Tom) Moore of Athens; six brothers, Larry, Richard and Kenny Carpenter all of Zanesville, James (Carolyn) Carpenter and Robert (Donna) Carpenter both of Newark, Don Carpenter of Florida; two brothers-in-law, Francis Cartwright of Nashport and Irvin (Rose) Cartwright of Illinois; sister-in-law, Janet Birkhimer of North Carolina and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Janice S. (Cartwright) Carpenter, whom he married January 30, 1959 and who died December 8, 2008; son, Ronald Carpenter; sister Dottie Carpenter; father and mother-in-law, Adran and Lucille Cartwright; son-in-law, Marvin Wheeler and sister-in-law, Laura Cartwright.
Friends and family may call from 5pm to 8pm Monday, March 21, 2022, at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at the funeral home with Chaplain Tim Patton officiating.
Wayne will be entombed beside his wife at Zanesville Memorial Park, 1475 Military Road, Zanesville.
