William H. Shiffler
October 23, 1960 - November 5, 2023 (Age 63)
William H. Shiffler, Jr., 63, of Irwin, died suddenly, Nov. 5, 2023. Bill raced through the Pearly Gates, finishing first in a life well-lived, full of love and adventure. He was greeted by his son Judson and father Bill Sr., who preceded him.
He is survived by Meg, his devoted wife of 30 years, loving daughter Natalie, beloved mother Sally (Lapcevich) Shiffler, and loyal brother Scott (Kristin) Shiffler. Bill will also be dearly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, including his apprentice Nathan (Tina) Durst and God-daughter Millie.
An Irwin native, Bill was a lifelong employee of Penn State Tool & Die, where he was known as “The Welder.” Tapped for his expertise, he also taught fabrication at Wyo-Tech in Blairsville. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Irwin
An avid car enthusiast, he built and raced VWs, various cars and trucks, and a front engine dragster. He enjoyed showing the fruits of his labors at local car shows and the Keystone Raceway Park.
His pride and joy however, were his children, whom he encouraged and supported throughout their lives. Following in his sons footsteps, Bill was an organ donor to give others a second chance at life.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the William Snyder Funeral Home, 521 Main Street, Irwin, 724-863-1200. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Church, 308 Second St., Irwin, with Father John Moineau, officiating. Those attending the Mass please go directly to the church. Bill will be laid to rest with his son at Penn Lincoln Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Church.
