William J. Hurdle
December 18, 1939 - May 7, 2025 (Age 85)
William James Hurdle, 85, of Mount Joy, PA, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Lancaster General Hospital, where he was a patient. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Paul Clarence Hurdle and Sara (Rinehart) Hurdle-Wilson. He was the husband of Shirley (Reeves) Johnson Hurdle. They celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary in January.
Known as "Bill" to his friends, he was a graduate of McCaskey HS. He was a Maintenance Mechanic at Alcoa Aluminum in Lancaster, PA. Later transferred to the location of Alcoa in Lebanon, PA., upon the closing of the Lancaster plant. When the Lebanon location closed, Bill retired after 40 years of service.
William was baptized and a member of Bright Side Baptist Church, Lancaster, PA. As a former member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Columbia, PA, William served as a Trustee Chairman.
He looked forward to the annual Hurdle-Stubbs Family Reunion, as well as the annual Reeves Family Reunion. William's homemade potato salad, sautéed mushrooms, spaghetti sauce, zucchini, and potato soup with crabmeat & meatloaf will be missed by our Families! He enjoyed NASCAR racing, Motorhome Camping, & Corvettes.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughters, Kim Hurdle, New Castle, DE, Jamie Holmes (James) Ephrata, PA, and stepsons, Daniel Johnson, Jr. (Elizabeth) San Diego, CA, Kevin Johnson, Sr. (Francoise) Lancaster, PA, his oldest brother, Paul C. Hurdle Jr., Lancaster, PA, his aunt Mary Hurdle, Lancaster, PA, his sisters-in-law, Charlotte Hurdle, Sinking Springs, PA, Betty Hurdle, Lancaster, & Joan Hurdle, Lancaster. He enjoyed time with his grandchildren: Avian, Jaleah, AJ, Shanice, Drew, & Tre. William leaves 6 Great-Grands, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He will be truly missed by his Reeves Sisters & Brothers-in-law.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Delores Stewart, and his two brothers, N. Robert Hurdle and Victor Kirk Hurdle.
Homegoing Services will be held at the discretion of the Family.
