Williametta Holt Rostron

Rock Hill – Mrs. Williametta Holt Rostron, age 85 of 1435 Ebinport Road, died on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at Piedmont Medical Hospital in Rock Hill, South Carolina, U.S.A.

Funeral services will be held on November 5, 2022 at 11 am at College Park Baptist Church, 1209 Eisenhower Rd. in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Viewing would be from 10:00 – 10:45am.

Mrs. Rostron, affectionately known as Ms. Williametta or Aunty Etta, or Aunty Metta was born in Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa unto the union of Walter William Holt and Amanda Worjoloh McClain Holt.

Her early education began at St. Theresa’s Convent where she remained through high school. She subsequently pursued further education at Leigh Sherman Secretarial School and became a secretary to the dean of the W. V.S. Tubman Teacher’s College, Dr. Mary Antoinette Brown Sherman in the 1970s. She was also an administrative assistant to the controller of the University of Liberia, Mr. Francis Johnson. At the Ministry of Education, the last place she worked, she was able to travel to several counties before the start of the 1989 Liberian Civil War. She really loved that job. Unfortunately, she had to leave Liberia and come to America in January,1991. She and her husband (Charles Rostron) lived in Connecticut, California, Tennessee and Ohio before finally settling in Rock Hill, South Carolina where she became a volunteer with SIM (Sudan Interior Mission) in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA.

Our mom was blessed in holy matrimony to the late Archibald Garga-Richardson in 1955 and that union was blessed with eight children: Joetta (Paul), Africanus (Thelma), Alieo, Archibald Jr., Masnoh, Mardi and Marwin (Giorgio) and Alvin. Later, in 1978, she married Professor Charles R. Rostron. Together, they had a total of 13 children. Her bonus children were Lucy (Bill), Ruthie (JD), Dottie (Joe Ben), Merry (Bill), and Joe (Becky). Later, she gained another daughter Rina, who has been a wonderful friend to her. Four of their children predeceased her-Ruthie, Dottie, Lucy and Joetta, along with two grandchildren, Jehu and Charlene.

She and her late husband, Charles Rostron, were able to travel to many countries during their lifetime. The last places they traveled to were Mongolia and Nigeria as SIM missionaries. They lived in Mongolia for a year and in Nigeria for five years.

She leaves to mourn her loss, 9 children, many others who became her children, 38 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives.

Mom lived a full and blessed life. She was loved by not only her children, but by her relatives, friends and all who came to know her. We are so happy she left this world the way she wanted to, in relatively good health until her death two weeks ago. We thank God for blessing her immensely. She is dwelling in the presence of the Almighty right now with all of her loved ones. She is already dearly missed. May her soul rest in everlasting peace and may light perpetual shine upon her. Amen and amen.

The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00pm on Friday, November 4, 2022 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
