Woneva Adair Cassel
November 1, 1929 - January 30, 2025 (Age 95)
Woneva Adair Cassel, age 95, died peacefully at Victoria House at Spring House Estates on January 30, 2025 after a brief illness. She was born on November 1, 1929, in Fayetteville, a daughter of the late Charles and Eva (Smith) Leeper. On December 10, 1950 in Fayetteville, she married the love of her life, George E. Cassel and he preceded her in death on October 22, 2017. She is survived by her two daughters: Chris Smith and husband Adam of Bedford; Peggy Bentley and husband Craig of San Diego, CA; three grandchildren, Luke Smith and wife, Meghan, of Seattle, WA; Chance Bentley and partner Joseph of San Diego, CA and Faith Bentley also of San Diego, CA; one great-grandson, Seamus Smith; and one brother Bill Leeper of Chambersburg. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Douglas and Gene Leeper.
After high school, Woneva attended King's Daughters Nursing School in Martinsburg, WV, graduating in 1950. She became an RN and had a rich and varied nursing career from school nurse to staff nurse to Director of Nursing and loved sharing her nursing stories. Woneva, along with George, were active volunteers in many community groups including the Bedford Co Food Bank, Bedford United Methodist Church and RSVP. Family was very important to Woneva. Her favorite pastime was looking at family photos and just remembering. Woneva loved her pets, flowers and painting. She relished a good cup of coffee and sitting in her recliner with a cat on her lap marveling at how a poor country girl had such a wonderfully full life.
Woneva's light continues to shine brightly. Her unending kindness, unwavering integrity, and deep love for her family will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by the Timothy A.
