Mr. James William Hyatt, departed this life on Thursday, December 25, 2025, at Atrium University Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina. James, a cornerstone of his family and community, was born on August 19, 1943, in the vibrant town of Rock Hill, South Carolina. He was the youngest of six cherished children born to the late Henry Hyatt and Curly Bell Roseborough Hyatt.
James received his foundational education within the Rock Hill public school system, where he cultivated a strong work ethic and a thirst for knowledge. Professionally, he dedicated many years to a fulfilling career as a truck driver, navigating the nation's highways for various companies with skill, diligence, and an unwavering commitment to his craft.
His heart found its true match in the incomparable Phyllis T. Hyatt, whom he affectionately called his Queen. Their bond was legendary; truly inseparable, they were affectionately called “King James and Queen Phyllis," embodying a regal partnership built on unwavering devotion and mutual adoration that inspired everyone around them.
A lifelong, dedicated member of Foundation AME Zion Church, James’s faith was a cornerstone of his existence. He walked through its doors from infancy, accompanying his beloved parents, Henry and Curly Bell, and his siblings, forging an unbreakable connection to his spiritual home and community. He loved his church dearly, actively participating and contributing to its vibrant life throughout the decades.
James was a beacon of warmth, known for his loving, caring, and wonderfully humorous spirit. A true "Chef" in his own right, he delighted in bringing joy through his culinary creations, often shared with boisterous laughter that filled every room he entered. He possessed a special tenderness for children, always ready with a kind word, a playful jest, or a comforting embrace, leaving a lasting impression on countless young hearts. His infectious laughter and genuine spirit will be sorely missed by his cherished church family, and most profoundly, by his adoring family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Phyllis T. Hyatt, and his beloved brothers: John Henry Hyatt, Billy Hyatt, and Robert Hyatt (Evelyn).
James leaves a powerful legacy of love and memories to be cherished by his daughter: Mrs. Carolyn S. Roseboro (Darrell); daughters, Mrs. Vangela Witherspoon (Wade), Mrs. Angela T. Caldwell. He is also survived by his dear sisters, Mrs. Louise Hyatt Frank, Mrs. Nell Hyatt Frank, Mrs. Joyce Talford (Dorian) and Mrs. Evelyn Robinson (Gary); sister-in-law, Mrs. Evelyn Hyatt. His memory lives on through his seven beloved grandchildren, and a host of adoring nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family who will forever carry his spirit in their hearts.
