Jean E. Smith

July 7, 1932 - November 21, 2025 (Age 93)

Jean Ethel Smith, 93, formerly of Greensburg, died on Friday November 21, 2025 in Melbourne, Florida. Jean was happily married for 64 years to Thomas Eugene Smith, until he passed away in 2018. She was born in 1932, the only child of the late Francis and Margaret (McMillen) Thomas of Youngwood and graduated from Youngwood High School. In 1954, Jean married Thomas Eugene Smith and bought a home in Greensburg, where she lived for almost 70 years. When her children were born, she stayed home to raise them. Once they were in school, since one of her passions was reading, she began volunteering at the library at Fort Allen Elementary school. This led to her becoming the secretary for Fort Allen Elementary, where she served the principal and the student body for over 25 years, retiring in 1999. After her retirement from Fort Allen, she volunteered for many years at the Greensburg Public library. She was also an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Greensburg. There, she volunteered in various capacities, most notably as the leader of the children’s nursery during Sunday School hours. In the final two years of her life, she moved to Melbourne, Florida to be near her family. Jean is survived by her three children, six grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Her children, Roy Smith and wife Laureen of Melbourne, Florida, Russell Smith and wife Susan of Melbourne, Florida, and Christine McWilliams and husband Mark of Bushnell, Florida. Her grandchildren, Ian Smith of Fair Grove, Missouri, Jocelyn Little and husband Bryan of Melbourne, Florida, Michael Smith of Melbourne, Florida, Michelle Buss and husband Joseph of Washington DC, Jessica Weakly and husband Gareth of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Riley McWilliams and wife Emma of Dayton, Maryland. Jean will be laid to rest beside her husband in Westmoreland County Memorial Park in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. As Jean has outlived the vast majority of her friends and contemporaries, there will be no public funeral service. Jean led a long happy life and will be dearly missed by her family.
