Bartley A. Black

April 27, 1937 - April 1, 2022 (Age 84)

Bartley Albert Black was born on April 27, 1937 son of Herbert and Ermine Black at Axe-and-Adze, in the parish of Hanover, Jamaica, West Indies. “Babba” as he was affectionately called, was near and dear to all.

While living in Jamaica, he fulfilled his dream of farming - cattle-rearing, poultry farming, and banana plantation. His love for farm animals led him to share facts, experiences, and stories about them to his children and grandchildren.

He migrated to the United States in the early 1970’s and found employment in the steel industry at H.A. Leed in Hamden, Connecticut, where he worked until his retirement.

In the late 1980’s Bartley met his wife Mary Allen. To Bartley, Mary has been a loving, caring, dutiful wife, displaying many of the attributes that Solomon describes in Proverbs 31. She loved her Bartley and cared for him endlessly. Bartley also loved his Mary and always spoke highly of her. Her demeanor and disposition have presented a warm invitation for the family to embrace her without reservation. Words are not enough to express the gratitude that the family feels for her love and devotion to Babba. After his retirement, Bartley and Mary relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina, where he spent the last 20 years of his life.

Bartley recommitted his life to the Lord and became a member of the New Haven Seventh-day Adventist Church. After relocating to Charlotte, he joined the Sharon Seventh-day Adventist Church in Charlotte, where he served as a deacon until ill health prevented him from attending.

With family by his side, Bartley entered into eternal rest on Friday, April 1, 2022 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Aldersgate in Charlotte, North Carolina.

He leaves to mourn: his wife, Mary. Daughters, Cheryl, Jacqueline(Kirk) and Dahlia (Julian) Sons, Gregory and Shaun(Tiffany). Sisters: Clover and Carrol. Brother: Audley(Sharlene) 8 Grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
