Gwendolyn S. Jones

Gwendolyn Sue Kumpe Jones, 79, of Matthews, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center.

Gwen was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on November 19, 1942. She was the daughter of the late Claude Daniel Kumpe and Helen Lorine Grant. She married Paul Edwards Jones on October 25, 1972, in Los Angeles, California. Gwen worked at Ball Bros. Co. in California until 1978 when the family moved to North Carolina. She then worked at Merita Bakery alongside her husband, and also obtained her real estate and brokers license.

Gwen was a faithful woman who loved the Lord Jesus; anybody that knew her was aware that her relationship with Him was the number one priority above all else and informed everything she did.

In addition to her parents, Gwen is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Edward Jones by eleven years and son, Michael Edward Jones by sixteen years.

Gwen is survived by her cat, Prissy “PJ” Jones, of Matthews, North Carolina; children, Paul William Jones and wife, Chrissy, of West Covina, California, Steven Charles Jones, and wife, Sarah, of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Diana Lee Daniel and husband, Doug, of Fort Myers, Florida, and Gloria “Sam” Whiteside of Mint Hill, North Carolina; her sister, Claudette Carrizosa and husband, Steve, of Los Angeles, California, and Willean Kirby of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 am Saturday, March 12, 2022, at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel in Mint Hill. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, March 12, 2022, in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.
