Mary E. Ewing

October 28, 1930 - December 18, 2022 (Age 92)

(Mary) Eileen Ewing, 92, formerly of Philo, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on December 18, 2022, at The Inn at Bear Trail in Lewis Center, Ohio.

Eileen was born in Wood River, IL on October 28, 1930, the daughter of Jaye and Mary (Hock) Williamson. Orphaned at a young age, Eileen was raised by her Aunt Fannie (Hock) and Uncle Charles Hartman in Duncan Falls, Ohio. A 1948 graduate of Philo High School, she went on to marry Don Richard Ewing (USAF) of Zanesville, Ohio. “Skipper’s” career led them to live in more than a few communities in Florida, Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky and Georgia.

Eileen served for many years as an Emergency Medical Technician with the Minerva Park Volunteer Fire Department. In her later years she returned to Philo Ohio where she reunited with so many good friends and family from her early years.

Eileen will be deeply missed by her children, Mark Stephan (Joanne) Ewing, David A. (Gayle) Ewing, John R. (Beth) Ewing, Jan E. (Danny) Giangardella, and Aaron C. (Holly) Ewing, her nine grandchildren: Meghan Ewing, Joel (Hillary) Ewing, Jonathan (Jessi) Ewing, Alex (Alex) Ewing, Kaycee Ewing, Nathan Giangardella, Samuel Giangardella, Nicholas Giangardella, Brandon Ewing, five great grandchildren: Karlee, Beatrix, Finnegan, Jacob, and Juliette, and many nieces and nephews.

Besides spending time with her family, Eileen enjoyed raising over 22 dogs and cats (mostly stray) that had the good fortune to find her. She especially enjoyed living out her later years at her home on Irish Ridge Road in Philo, where she hosted her family and friends for numerous reunions and holidays.

In addition to her parents, Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Don R. Ewing, who passed away May 28, 1973; and her three sisters, Kathryn Hughes, Ruth Moss and Betty Haddox. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church near Philo, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in Eileen’s name to either, Christ’s Table (28 South 6th Street, Zanesville, Ohio 43701) or Animal Shelter Society (1430 Newark Road, Zanesville, Ohio 43701).

Visitations will be 11 to 1 on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 6575 Center Road, Roseville, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at the Church at 1 PM following visitations. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Memorial Park Cemetery (Military Rd., Zanesville). Pastor Al Laese is the officiant, and the Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls is caring for the Ewing family.
