Timothy J. Laird
December 21, 1956 - September 7, 2021 (Age 64)
Timothy James Laird, 64, of New Enterprise passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at UPMC Altoona Hospital. He was born in Altoona, PA on December 21, 1956 a son of the late Gilbert and Pauline (Campbell) Laird. On October 7, 1978 he was united in marriage to the former Betty Sue (Eshelman) Laird.
Along with his wife he is survived by children Jeremy K. Laird married to Alicia (Brown), Bedford and Doug J. Laird and fiancé Sarah Albright, Altoona; grandchildren Noah, Alexander and Molly; siblings Mary Lu Furry married to Joe, Zeta married to Al Turnbaugh and Randy married to Roxann Laird.
Timothy was a graduate of Bellwood Antis High School Class of 1974. After high school he went on to work for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission where he retired from after thirty-five years of service as an assistant foreman in 2011. He also served as an interim pastor for Diehl’s Crossroads Church of the Brethren and pastor for seven years at Brethren Church in Cerro Gordo in Illinois.
Mr. Laird was a member of the New Enterprise Church of the Brethren where he served as Sunday School Teacher, youth leader and men’s bible study leader. He was instrumental in the startup of the 1st Southern Cove Ambulance Service. Timothy also helped start the boys’ soccer team program for Northern Bedford County and was the assistant coach as well as coaching AYSO Soccer. He was a former active member of the Southern Cove Volunteer Fire Company and was an avid bicycler and disc golfer.
Friends and family will be received on Thursday, September 9, 2021 from 6:00 P.M.- 8:30 P.M. at the New Enterprise Church of the Brethren, 3715 West Brumbaugh Road, New Enterprise, PA 16664 and on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service at the church.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 10, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at the New Enterprise Church of the Brethren with Rev. Marlys Hershberger officiating.
